Andrea Park writes in an article in Vice about Anoushka Chander's journey through activism fighting for voter suppression from starting a group at her school, namely the Student Action Committee, to lobbying in congress.

“This is how we participate in our democracy. And I think also for young people, starting to vote early is really a good idea because it creates a culture of voting. So it's not just every four years you tune in for a presidential election. Every single time there's an election of some sort, you are a civically minded voter.” ~ Anoushka Changer

Chander began her journey in activism and engagement in politics with the rough loss of candidate she rooted for 2016. Chander mentions how she rushes into protests between her classes, and that she worked up to creating a group at her school, the Georgetown Day School in Washington D.C. called the Student Action Committee. “It basically connects GDS students with local and national advocacy groups and advocacy opportunities and also educates and registers voters,” she explains.

“I think it’s super important to vote because it’s the best way to have your voice heard in this country,” she clarifies. “And unfortunately for so many communities, there has been historical suppression of the vote.”

Together with her team of at least 70 high school students, they lobby not only for new perspectives upon the voting field, but have also been working on persuading Congress to approve the upcoming COVID-19 relief bill, which includes funding and provisions for election protection.
